Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari have given consumers a vital message. Car travel is now going to be even safer. Now it is mandatory to provide six airbags with eight-seater cars. This rule regarding road safety will come into effect from October 1, 2022. The new rules allow car companies to increase the price of vehicles.
Strict adherence to safety standards has become essential in India. It will also protect vehicles and pedestrians with six airbags in larger cars. The proposal to make six airbags mandatory in 8-seater vehicles has been approved recently. The government has already made it compulsory for all passenger vehicles to have two airbags.
6 Airbags Mandatory In 8 Seater Vehicles
The driver’s airbags requirement was implemented from July 2019, while it has become mandatory for the passenger sitting in the front seat from January 1, 2022. Four more airbags have been made compulsory in vehicles to keep passengers safe to reduce the impact of head-on collisions and side-by-side collisions.
Having two airbags and two tube airbags around the back seat will make travel safer for all passengers. Gadkari said this is a step towards making car travel safe in India. According to government data, 1.16 lakh road accidents will occur on the highway in 2020. In which 47,984 people have died.
Will car prices increase?
Airbags can increase the price of the car by up to Rs 4,000. Car manufacturers can install more airbags in the vehicle itself. But the car is ready now if you want to replace it again, the price of the vehicle is expected to increase by Rs 50,000.
