The problem of grape farmers in Maharashtra is not taking its name reduced. Due to unseasonal rains and climate change, the vineyards have suffered a lot this year. Grape cultivation is done on a large scale in northern Maharashtra and Sangli district. But due to unseasonal rains in this district, there is a decrease in production.
Whereas now, the orchards are being affected due to rain and sometimes harsh sunlight in the district. Due to this, traders have stopped buying grapes. They say that now even the cost will not come out of this fruit.
Now ruined vineyards
The market formula is that rates will go up when production declines, but in the case of grapes, this year, everything seems to be turning upside down because the prices of grapes fell sharply at the beginning of the season when production fell this year. The demand for grapes increased significantly with the rising temperature, but the farmers were again disappointed due to the sudden unseasonal rains.
Hundreds of acres of grapes are still lying in the garden like this. Especially in Tasgaon taluka, Mayam taluka of Sangli district, rainwater is still stagnant in the orchards, due to which the fruits are getting spoiled.
What are the problems of farmers?
Farmers say that this rain is suitable for those farmers whose grapes have been harvested, but the orchards where grapes are still in the vines have suffered irreparable damage. We farmers have spent thousands of rupees per acre on the cultivation of orchards for spraying. Seeing such a situation, the question arises in the farmers’ minds about whether to plant vineyards shortly or not.
Traders stopped buying grapes.
Due to the changing weather, there is a danger of deterioration in the quality of grapes; this process has been going on for the last eight days; due to the harsh sun, unseasonal rains, there would have been a possibility of reducing the sweetness in the grapes, so the traders have taken a cautious approach and now the present grapes If the purchase has been stopped, then some farmers are alleging that the traders are plotting to reduce the rate.
