Matchbox Price Doubles After 14 Years, New Rate From 1 December


Matchbox Price Increase: The effect of inflation is visible everywhere. After 14 years, the rate of Matchbox has also increased. The Matchbox, which was earlier available for 1 rupee, will now be available for 2 rupees. Representatives of matchmaking companies have taken this decision together. Earlier in 2007, there was a change in the rate of Matchbox. At that time its price was increased by 50 paise to Re 1. The new price will be applicable from 1st December.

The All India Chamber of Matchbox has decided to increase the rate of Matchbox. Industry people say that due to the increase in the rate of raw materials in the recent past, the decision has been taken to increase the price of Matchbox. Manufacturers say that 14 different types of raw materials are needed to make a match. Many of these ingredients are such that their cost has more than doubled.

Matchbox Price Doubles After 14 Years

The rate of Red Phosphorus has increased from Rs 425 to Rs 810. The price of wax has increased from Rs 58 to Rs 80. The cost of the Outer Box Board has increased from Rs 36 to Rs 55. The price of the Inner Box Board has increased from Rs 32 to Rs 58. The cost of substances like paper, splint, potassium chlorate, sulfur has also increased in the second week of October. Due to all these reasons, it has been decided to increase the rate.


60 per cent increase in per bundle rate

VS Sethurathynam, secretary of the National Small Matchbox Manufacturers Association, while talking to The Times of India, said that the manufacturers are currently selling a bundle of 600 matchboxes for Rs 270-300. There are 50 spleens in every match. We have decided to increase the price by 60 per cent. Now we will sell Matchbox at Rs 430-480 per bundle. In this, GST of 12 per cent and transportation cost is separate.

Getting these low wages

More than four lakh people are directly and indirectly involved in the matchbox business in Tamil Nadu. Of the people directly connected, 90 per cent are women only. Industry people say that when we pay more people working, their life will also improve. Due to getting low rates here, these people are now more interested in working in the MNREGA scheme. There they will get more money.
