There is a possibility of a further increase in the prices of food grains across the world. The government of Ukraine has banned the export of food grains and animal feed to meet domestic needs. Due to the crisis with Russia, the government of Ukraine is focusing its attention on meeting domestic needs.
Due to the ban, the price of food and milk products has become feared in many parts of Europe, Asia and Africa. Ukraine has a significant share in the world’s food production. Wheat, edible oil, fodder etc., are supplied from Ukraine worldwide. Along with the crisis, there is an increase in the prices of wheat corn edible oils.
Ukraine Bans Exports
The government of Ukraine has banned the export of many other food grains, including wheat. According to a government announcement, the export of millet, sugar, live cattle, meat and many other products has been banned like the new agricultural exports introduced this week.
Ukraine’s government said in a statement through the official website that amidst the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, the ban on exports is needed to stabilize the market and meet the needs of the people.
Inflation will increase in many parts of the world
The sanctions have threatened people’s food supply in Europe, Africa, and Asia, which depend on exports from Russia and Ukraine for many products. Russia and Ukraine supply about a third of the world’s wheat and barley exports. After the Russian attack, there has been a sharp jump in the prices of these products.
Due to the conflict, there is a possibility of a food crisis in places like Egypt and Lebanon due to the rise in food prices. Experts fear that the export ban will hurt the global food supply, and its impact will also be severe as prices were already on the rise and are now at their highest level since 2011.
