Maharashtra’s new Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis has given instructions to transfer the Metro Car Shed to Aarey Colony as soon as he takes over. According to sources, he asked the government’s legal team to inform the court that the metro car shed would now be shifted to Aarey Colony.

What is Metro Car Shed?
To understand this controversy, we must know what the Metro Car Shed Project is. MMRDA is building a metro car shed for the Mumbai Metro’s 33.5-km long Colaba-Bandra Seepage Underground Metro line. This metro project has become a cause of controversy for Shiv Sena and BJP for a long time. This metro shed was earlier built-in Aarey Colony. Shiv Sena had been demanding since 2015 to shift the project from Aarey Colony to another location.
Petitions were filed against this project in the Bombay High Court. However, the High Court dismissed the petitions filed to stop the felling of trees. After this, Metro Corporation started felling trees here. The BMC had permitted the Metro authorities to fall 2,700 trees. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation had said that only a tiny part of the trees would be cut. This is necessary to ensure a modern transport system for the people of Mumbai.

Aarey is a green land situated inside the city of Mumbai. There are about 5 lakh trees here, and many species of animals and birds are found here. Due to the greenery of this place, it is called the ‘Green Lung of Mumbai’. Shiv Sena says that trees will be cut due to the construction of a metro car shed here.
