Fee Hike Issue In Allahabad University
Adarsh Bhadauria, a student who attempted suicide, has accused the police of torturing the family. According to the student, since he has been active in the ongoing agitation against the fee hike, the police are constantly going to his village, and the family members are being threatened. Pressure is being put on the family members that he should be called back from the movement. Otherwise, the whole family will be sent to jail.
During the attempt at self-immolation, outpost in-charge Vinay Kumar Singh and other police officers present on the spot caught the student and saved him from being caught in the fire.
Several students fainted in a scuffle during a clash with the police during attempted self-immolation on Monday. These students were sent to the hospital for treatment by ambulance. After the uproar, the police wanted to catch many students and take them with them, but a large number of students present pushed and rescued their comrades.
A delegation of Shivpal Yadav’s Progressive Samaj Party reached the university on Monday to support the students’ movement. The attempt at self-immolation was made only when the PSP leader was present among the students. However, it remains to be seen what kind of strategy the police administration devises to deal with the students today’s potentially fierce protest.
According to Jaya Kapoor, the university’s PRO, the fee has increased for many years. It was needed too. This fee hike will apply to the students taking new admission. He said that it had been done very thoughtfully. The agitation by the students is disrupting their studies. Some students had broken the lock of the university gate, and action was taken against them by the administration.
