Biju Janata Dal ( BJD ) MLA Angada Kanhar is among 5.8 lakh students who appeared for the Class X examinations of the Odisha Education Board that began on Friday amid tight security. He had left his studies 40 years ago.
BJD MLA Angada Kanhar Is Giving 10th Examination
But this time, he is giving the 10th exam. Earlier in 2019, after becoming a member of the Legislative Assembly, he had given the examination of class VIII. Kanhar has passed the English exam at Rujaangi High School. Along with him, two of his friends are also taking the exam.
Kanhar, an MLA from Phulbani in the state, appeared for his examination at Rujangi High School in Pitabari village in the Kandhamal district. He said, ‘Some members of the panchayat and my driver encouraged me to appear for the exam. I don’t know whether I will be able to pass the exam or not. But I have given my exam to get a 10th class certificate.
Had left studies in 1978
MLA Kanhar said, ‘I was in class 10 of 1978. But due to family reasons, I could not take the exam and left my studies. Recently I was told that many 50 years of age and above are taking the exam. So I have also decided to give the exam this time. There is no age limit for appearing in the exam and getting an education.
Sarpanch’s friend is also giving an exam.
Kanhar’s examination centre superintendent Archana Bass said that no special treatment was given to the MLA. Bass said, ‘The MLA took the exam along with other students. Like other students, they were also thoroughly screened before being allowed to appear in the exam. He said, ‘Board examinations are being held at our centre. This unique exam was conducted for those people who had left their studies midway. Around 63 students are taking the SIOS exam at this centre. Among them are Kanhar and his sarpanch friends. These exams will end on May 10.
Tight security exam
At the same time, an official of the Board of Secondary Education said that given the problematic heatwave situation in the state, almost all the examinations would be conducted between 8 am to 9:30 am. It is worth noting that 5,85,730 students are appearing in the state board examination of class X this year at 3,540 centres. More than 35,000 teachers have been deployed, and the board has deployed spec,ial, squads to oversee the entire process.
