For the Rajya Sabha elections to be held on four seats of Rajasthan, BJP has given an exciting colour to the contest by fielding an independent candidate. BJP has done Subhash Chandra’s entry in the Rajya Sabha elections, which can be officially announced today. Today is the last date for filing nominations for the Rajya Sabha elections, for which Subhash Chandra has reached the capital late on Monday night.
It is believed that BJP may try to break into Congress MLAs by fielding independent candidates in the elections. Chandra can also get the support of BTP and CPI(M) MLAs. BJP, according to the strength of the number of MLAs, the victory in one seat was considered fixed, whereas now, by fielding two candidates, it is believed that both the parties should fence their MLAs. On the other hand, BJP has started efforts to take 3 MLAs of Nagaur MP Hanuman Beniwal and other independents.
In terms of numbers, Congress is sure to win two and BJP one seat, but the contest for the third seat can be attractive. For Congress to win the third seat, the support of 123 MLAs will be needed. Media group owner Subhash Chandra has reached Rajya Sabha from Haryana once before.
The whole game rests on independent MLAs
Congress held a meeting with the MLAs on Monday evening regarding the Rajya Sabha elections, although not many MLAs attended it. At the same time, there will be a meeting of BJP MLAs at 10 am on Tuesday, after which BJP candidate Ghanshyam Tiwari will file his nomination papers. It is being told that many other leaders, including Vasundhara Raje, Gulab Chand Kataria, Satish Poonia and Rajendra Rathod, can become the proponents of Tiwari. On the other hand, other candidates of the BJP can file nominations tomorrow.
Congress has a majority to win two seats, but independent MLAs will be needed for the third seat. At the same time, BJP also wants to get the support of independent MLAs by fielding candidates for two seats.
Congress fears cross-voting.
Significantly, the ruling party, Congress, has 108 MLAs, and BJP has 71 MLAs. While 13 Independents, RLP 3, BTP 2, CPI(M) 2 and RLD have one MLA. Congress has the support of all 13 independent MLAs in the government. Apart from this, for the elections, the CPI(M) has assured 2 MLAs to support the Congress, and one RLD MLA will also vote for the Congress.
