Twitter Account Ban in India: Social media platform and micro-blogging website the Government has asked Twitter of India to close 1122 Twitter URLs this year. This was revealed in a written reply in the Lok Sabha. On behalf of the Government, questions related to Twitter were answered in front of the House.

During the proceedings in the Lok Sabha, MP Pradyut Bordoloi had asked whether the Government had requested Twitter to shut down any account. If yes, what is its data and the number of accounts closed on Twitter since 2014? He further asked whether the report closed by Twitter has been handled since 2014? After all, what is the reason for closing these accounts?
IT Minister replied
Minister of State for Electronics and Technology Rajiv Chandrashekhar gave a written answer to the question of MP Pradyut Bordoloi. He said that the Government asked Twitter to close 1122 Twitter URLs this year. The last year 2851 Twitter accounts were closed.

Why delete an account?
Apart from this, Rajeev Chandrashekhar said that in line with the Government’s objective to ensure a safe, reliable, and accountable internet, the IT Ministry issued instructions to block URLs, including Twitter accounts, under Section 69A of the IT Act, 2000. He said that the IT Ministry does not maintain the data of accounts suspended by Twitter.
