You must have seen that nowadays, everyone from Sarpanch to Minister has vehicles. Some drive in a small cars, while some have expensive luxury cars. Some MLAs feel even less salary pension of lakhs, but you will be surprised to hear the story of Jethabhai Rathod, former MLA of Gujarat. They are neither getting a pension nor exceptional help from the government.
Jethabhai Rathod, a resident of Tebra, a small village in Gujarat’s Sabarkantha district, won the Khedbramha Assembly in 1967 as an independent candidate against the Congress by a margin of 17,000 votes. At that time, he campaigned on a bicycle.
People say that Jethabhai used to go from Khedbramha to Gandhinagar only by government bus. For five years, these MLAs, who travelled by bicycle in the entire assembly, including the local areas, remained a participant in the happiness and misery of the public. However, still, they are not getting any help from the government.
Jethabhai had sought justice in the court regarding pension. After fighting the battle for a long time, the court had ruled in his favour; even after this, the pension was not received to date. Jethabhai has five sons and his family, who earn their living by doing labour.
The entire family is forced to earn their living with the help of the BPL ration card. People say that the MLA who wiped the public’s tears in bad times, today there is no one to wipe his tears. Now the family is pleading with the government to help them.
At present, the Sarpanch lives a luxurious life. One month’s salary of an MLA ranges from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh. In such a situation, in the tenure of 5 years, about 12 crore rupees are made. Still, given the pathetic condition of Jethabhai Rathod, a former MLA from Gujarat, many questions arise.
