What did Navneet Rana write in the letter to the speaker?
On Monday, Navneet Rana wrote a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Navneet Rana wrote that I was taken to the police station on the 23rd. On 23 April, I spent the whole night in the police station. I asked for water several times during the night, but I was not given water throughout the night.
Navneet further made a significant allegation and said that the police staff on the spot said that I belong to Scheduled Caste, so they cannot give me water in the same glass they drink. Meaning I was not even given water to drink because of my caste. I want to emphasise that I have been denied fundamental human rights because of my caste.
Navneet further says that I had to go to the bathroom at night, but the police staff did not pay attention to my demand. Then I was abused. It was said that they (police staff) do not allow the lower caste people to use their bathroom.
What is the matter
Amidst the loudspeaker controversy, the Rana couple had announced to read Hanuman Chalisa outside Uddhav Thackeray’s house ‘Matoshree’ on Friday. After this announcement of the Rana couple, Shiv Sainiks gathered in large numbers outside their house since morning.
They created a ruckus outside the Rane couple’s house throughout the day. Shiv Sainiks accused the Rane couple of hurting religious sentiments. In the complaint lodged with the police, the Shiv Sainiks said that Matoshree is like a temple for them. Shiv Sainiks said that the Rana couple had hurt their sentiments.
Following the complaint of Shiv Sainiks, the police registered a case under IPC section 153A (promoting enmity between two groups on the grounds of religion, caste or language) and arrested the Rana couple. Then he was sent to jail.
The hearing on the bail of Navneet Rana and Ravi Rana was held in the sessions court on Tuesday, but they have not received relief yet. Both will have to remain in jail for now. The case’s next hearing in the sessions court will be on April 29.
The matter has now reached Delhi. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has sought a factual report from the Maharashtra government regarding the arrest of Independent Lok Sabha MP Navneet Rana and allegations of inhuman treatment at Khar police station. The Lok Sabha Privileges and Ethics Committee had asked for a report before the MHA.
