Tomato Turns ‘Red’, Prices Cross 100 In These Cities Of The Country


Due to supply problems, there has been a sharp jump in the prices of tomatoes in the last month. This has emerged as a new problem for the ordinary people already troubled by inflation. Tomato Retail Prices in Metro Cities have reached Rs 77 per kg. At the same time, in some country cities, its prices have even crossed Rs 100.

Most expensive in Kolkata among big cities

According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs data, the prices of tomatoes in Delhi have not increased much. A month ago, the tomato was being sold for Rs 30 a kg in the retail market in Delhi, which has now grown to Rs 40 to 60. However, the condition of other metro cities is not as good as in Delhi.

Tomato Prices In Mumbai, Tomato was selling at Rs 36 a kg on May 1, and on June 01, they reached Rs 74. During this, tomato prices in Chennai increased from Rs 47 to Rs 62 per kg. Tomato prices have increased the most in Kolkata. A month ago, its price was only Rs 25 a kg, which has now gone up to Rs 77 a kg.


Tomato crosses hundred rupees in these cities.

According to government data, in some cities of the country, the prices of tomatoes have crossed even Rs 100 per kg. According to the data, tomatoes have scored a century in four cities ‘Port Blair, Shillong, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta’. According to the data, its retail price in many cities of the major tomato producing states of Andhra Pradesh (Andhra Pradesh), Karnataka (Karnataka) and Maharashtra (Maharashtra) ranges between Rs. 50 to Rs. 100 a kg.

The average price increased so much in a month.

Traders and experts say that its prices have increased sharply due to less supply from significant tomato producing states like Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The average tomato prices across the country have also risen sharply in the last month. The average retail price of tomatoes in the country was Rs 29.5 on May 1, which increased to Rs 52.30 on June 1. In this way, the average cost of tomatoes has risen by 77 per cent in the last month.
