Bhakra Railway Train: If you are caught travelling on a train without a ticket in India, then you can be fined; in many cases, you may have to face jail air, but there is such a train in the country in which you can travel for free without spending a single rupee.
It is hard to believe, but the passengers of the Bhakra Railway train have been enjoying a free train journey for 73 years.
This particular train runs on the borders of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, where people travel between Nangal and Bhakhar. People do not have to worry about booking tickets to travel on this train.
According to the report, the Bhakra-Nangal rail service was started in 1948. The need for a unique railway line was felt during the construction of Bhakra Nangal Dam, as there was no way to travel between Nangal and Bhakhar at that time. To facilitate the movement of people along with heavy machinery, it was decided to build a railway track on this route.
Initially, the train used to run on steam locomotives, later replaced by locomotives imported from America in 1953. Even today, this unique train is running with its 60-year-old engines. The seats on this train are from the colonial era. Each coach on the train is fantastic and was made in Karachi.
The train crosses the Shivalik hills and reaches Nehla station before travelling to Nangal Dam in Punjab.
About 18 to 20 litres of fuel is spent on this train every day, but still, the Bhakra Beas Management Board has kept travelling free in it.
There were ten coaches on this particular train, but now only three coaches are left on it.
Although the Bhakra Beas Management Board had thought about abolishing free travel due to financial problems, more importance was given to maintaining the historical legacy of this train than earning.
