The concern of watermelon growing farmers is increasing in Maharashtra, where their watermelons were getting record rates earlier. At the same time, due to the increase in arrivals in the market, the prices have started coming down; at the beginning of the season, many markets were getting heavy appearances, and farmers were getting reasonable rates.
Due to the summer and the festival of Ramadan, the demand for watermelon continues to rise. Still, in the meantime, due to the increase in the arrival of watermelon, the price also started falling. Farmers are now worried about not getting the cost in such a situation.
Somnath Patel, a farmer, living in the Latur district, said that watermelon was getting a reasonable price at the beginning of this year, due to which I also planted watermelon. Still, Not much profit is being made because watermelon prices have fallen. Due to this, the cost will also not be able to come out properly.
Watermelon prices were slashed by up to 50 per cent
The farmers of Maharashtra were getting better prices for watermelon at the beginning of the season. Under which farmers were getting 15 to 16 rupees per kg in watermelon. Due to this, the farmers hoped that they would get more price of watermelons in the rising heat, but these days the arrival of watermelons in the market has suddenly increased.
In fact, with the increase in arrivals in the market, the whole picture has changed. Due to the increase in arrivals, these farmers are getting the rate of 8 to 10 rupees per kg of watermelon. The same traders say that the prices will fall further due to the rise in arrivals in the coming days.
Water on farmers’ hopes again.
Except for the main crops of Kharif along with the Rabi season crops, the farmers of Maharashtra have emphasised the seasonal harvest this time. Although initially, he was getting good profits too. Overall, farmers were getting reasonable prices till a few days ago by producing seasonal fruits and vegetables.
But now all the farmers are not getting this profit. In fact, in many districts of Maharashtra, farmers cultivate watermelon on a large scale. Due to this, the arrival of watermelon in the market has increased these days, and the prices have fallen. Farmers say that we thought this Mosami fruit would compensate for the damage caused to the main crops, but now the falling price has ruined all the hopes.
