Narali Bhat Recipe: Every state has its own traditional dish. Which is made on different festivals. Today we are telling about the traditional dish of Maharashtra, Narali Bhaat. It is also called Sweet Coconut Rice. It is made by mixing jaggery, coconut and rice. Apart from being delicious to eat, it is also beneficial for health.
Jaggery is used in Narali Bhaat which is also beneficial for fitness freaks. Eating this does not increase your calories too much. Let’s know about the recipe of making Narali Bhaat.
Narali Bhat Recipe
- 1/2 cup basmati rice
- 8 to 9 saffron threads
- 1 tbsp ghee
- 1/2 cup jaggery
- 1/2 cup grated coconut
- 2 small cardamom
- 3 cloves
- 1 inch cinnamon piece
- Salt as per taste
- Half tsp ground cardamom powder
- Cashew nuts, raisins
How to make
To make Narali Bhaat, soak most of the rice in water for 30 minutes.
After this, heat the kadi on medium flame and add ghee. When the ghee becomes hot, add rice to it and cook for a minute.
After some time, take a cup of water, salt and saffron threads, add ghee in another pan and cook cashews, raisins till they become golden brown.
After this add jaggery and coconut and cook till the jaggery is gone.
When the jaggery is cooked well, then add rice to it, mix it well and cover and cook well for about 5 minutes.
After this, mix cardamom powder in the end and turn off the gas.
Narali Bhaat is mainly celebrated in Maharashtra on the day of Coconut Purnima. This festival is celebrated on the day of Shravani Purnima of Sawan month. On this day the festival of Rakhi is celebrated with great pomp across the country. At the same time, Coconut Purnima has special significance for the fishermen of the Koli community in Maharashtra.
The word coconut is derived from naral which means coconut. On this special day, fishermen offer coconut in the ocean to please Varun Dev before landing their boat from the sea. On this special day, dishes made from coconut are prepared. Narli Bhaat, Narli Karanji and Narli Vadi are included on this day.
