Stampede In Vaishno Devi Temple: The new year has started with sad news. Twelve people lost their lives, while 13 others were injured in a stampede at the famous Vaishno Devi temple in Jammu and Kashmir. This whole incident happened on January 1, 2022, at 3 am. Jammu and Kashmir DGP Dilbag Singh told news agency ANI,
“Twelve people died, 13 were injured due to stampede at Mata Vaishno Devi temple in Katra. According to initial reports, the incident took place at 3.45 am. There was a fight, after which people started pushing each other. Then there was a stampede.”

According to the report of Sunil Bhatt associated with India Today, out of the 12 dead, eight have been identified. These deceased are from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu, and Kashmir. According to the report, the injured were admitted to Narayana Hospital, where many of them are said to be critical.
Meanwhile, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of those who died. At the same time, Rs 2 lakh has been announced for the injured. At the same time, 2-2 lakhs have been told by the PMO. The Prime Minister has also announced fifty thousand rupees to the injured. At the same time, 25 thousand rupees will be given to the families of the dead on behalf of the Vaishno Devi Temple Board.

Police did lathicharge
According to the Indian Express report, the police resorted to a lathi charge to control the crowd at the temple. Only after that, there was a stampede. It has also come to the fore that more than 25 thousand people were allowed to go to the temple from Katra. Amid the third wave of Corona, the travel slips of the devotees were not even checked. Because of this, the crowd gathered.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has ordered the formation of a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the incident. This committee will be headed by the Chief Secretary and ADGP of Jammu and Kashmir. In a tweet, Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also said that he had informed Union Home Minister Amit Shah about this entire development.
India Today spoke to several devotees and eyewitnesses regarding this development. He said that the administration did not make proper arrangements. Neither the passenger slips were checked, nor adequate medical arrangements were made. These devotees and eyewitnesses also raised questions on the attitude of the police.
On the other hand, the leaders have expressed their condolences to the people killed in this accident.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also tweeted

The administration is working continuously to provide treatment to the injured. I express my condolences to the people who lost their lives in this accident.”
