Mekapati Goutham Reddy, who handled the Department of Commerce, IT and Skill Development, and the Ministry of Industry in the Government of Andhra Pradesh, died of a heart attack on Monday. According to reports, the 50-year-old minister had gone to Dubai to bring investments to the state and returned to Hyderabad on Sunday itself.
After fainting at home, he was brought to Jubilee Hills Apollo Hospital in an emergency condition. Expressing grief over his death, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said he was a promising young leader and had known him from his early days.
While talking about the death of the young cabinet colleague, the CM had an apparent lack of words. Goutham Reddy had gone to Abu Dhabi only last week, where the Andhra government organized the Abu Dhabi Roadshow event at the Dubai Auto Expo to encourage investment in the state. Here he met with many business people and investors.
First time MLA in 2014
Reddy was an MLA from the Atmakuru assembly seat in the Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. He was the son of former MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy. He was first elected MLA in 2014 from Atmakuru. In 2019, he was again elected from here and became a minister in the first government of the YSR Congress. Apart from S Jagan Mohan Reddy, many others have also expressed deep condolences on the death of Goutham Reddy.
Hospital issued statement
The hospital has stated the death of Goutham Reddy. It said, ‘The minister reached us at 7:45 am and was not breathing. He was given immediate CPR and cardiac life support in our emergency ward. Experts looked after him, including the emergency medical team, cardiologists, and critical care doctors. Let us tell you that 50-year-old Goutham used to exercise regularly and was also in good health. Despite this, everyone is in shock due to his sudden demise.
