ON SATURDAY, the SIT of Uttar Pradesh Police arrested Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence after nearly 12 hours of interrogation and produced him in the court after midnight. From where he was sent to jail in judicial custody.

Senior Prosecution Officer (SPO) SP Yadav said that the judicial magistrate had sent Ashish to 14 days of judicial custody in Lakhimpur Kheri district jail. Yadav said that an application was made for Ashish’s police remand. And the court has fixed October 11 for a hearing on this application.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) Upendra Agarwal, who is heading the SIT set up to investigate the case, was informed about the arrest of Ashish Mishra at around 11 pm on Saturday. Agarwal said that Mishra did not give proper answers to the questions of the police and did not cooperate in the investigation. He is not trying to tell the right things, so he was arrested.
Many security personnel were deployed, and barricades were put up in the area around the police line. During the interrogation of Ashish by the SIT, Ajay Mishra was present at his MP’s office in Lakhimpur Kheri along with lawyers. And later, he came out to appease his supporters. Many supporters of the Union Minister had gathered outside his residence and were raising slogans in support of him and his son.
The minister claimed before the supporters that Ashish was innocent and he would be proven innocent. Significantly, the Supreme Court had on Friday expressed deep displeasure over the state government’s action in the matter.
