In the case of illegal mining and smuggling of coal, the Calcutta High Court has reprimanded, questioning the role of the Enforcement Directorate ( ED ). The court asked why not a single witness had been examined in Kolkata. The hearing of the coal case took place on Tuesday.
The Enforcement Directorate or ED was reprimanded during the hearing of the case in the court of Justice Rajasekhar Manthar. “Is the ED so incompetent that they cannot cross-examine a witness in Kolkata,” Justice Rajasekhar Mantha asked. The court has not stayed the investigation.
Coal Smuggling Case
Despite this, no positive steps are being taken? Why is ED not interrogating Nizam Palace or elsewhere? Why is he silent after sending summons twice? This behaviour of ED is not acceptable at all.”
However, the ED said that the lawyer fighting the case is not available. That’s why they need time. At the same time, the Calcutta High Court has increased the security of Sumit Roy, one of the witnesses in the coal scam.
The deadline has been extended for the next two months. Earlier on December 20, the court had extended the period of his defence. The ED had summoned him to Delhi for coal mining. Challenging that direction, Sumit Roy reached the court.
The court got angry with the attitude of the Enforcement Directorate regarding the investigation.
When someone is approaching the court for an extension of bail in several probe cases, including coal scams, the ED says they should be given more time to investigate. This incident angered Justice Rajasekhar Mantha. He asked why the ED was not calling Kolkata and taking the investigation process forward.
Particularly in the case of Sumit Roy, he questioned whether Sumit Roy could have been called to the Nizam’s Palace in Kolkata for questioning? Apart from this, the ED also asked why he stopped after sending summons twice?
ED became active before the assembly elections.
Important cases like coal scams where many names have come in the hands of investigators. But the question is why significant steps have not been taken until now. Questions have also been raised in various circles that the Central Investigation Agency (CIA) had shown a lot of readiness in the coal scam ahead of the assembly elections.
The ruling party of this state has repeatedly claimed that this ED, CBI, is working at the behest of the central government. It is active only at the time of election. The rest of the time, he claims, the lax attitude of the investigators is evident. Let us inform you that the ED has started the investigation by registering an FIR under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act in the alleged coal smuggling case.
CBI is also probing this matter. IN THE SAME CASE, the ED had also summoned Abhishek Banerjee and his wife Rujira Banerjee, but she did not appear. Minister Malay Ghatak has also been called in this matter.
