The central government has set up a new department for military affairs on Tuesday. This department will head by the country’s first Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat. Bipin Rawat will take over the CDS on Wednesday on the first day of the new year.

Bipin Rawat has retired from the post of Army Chief today and will take over the command of the CDS tomorrow, ie January 1. Before taking over his command, the government has formed the department.
On 15 August this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the creation of a new post of Chief of Defense Staff, that is, to be the most senior military commander, to further improve the coordination between the three armies of the country from the ramparts of the Red Fort. Because of this, the current Chief of Army Staff General Bipin Rawat was being speculated to become the first CDS of the country.
General Rawat Will Remain CDS
General Rawat completed his 3-year term as the Chief of the Indian Army and retired on 31 December today. Now he will take over the post of CDS. Bipin Rawat of 62 years will remain the post of Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) till he attains the age of 65 years.
As CDS, it will be his most important responsibility to improve the coordination between the three armies. For this, the Department of Military Affairs has formed.
