The Income Tax Department conducted raids on some Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) contractors, prominent people, and associates. In this, undeclared cash of two crore rupees and jewellery worth 1.5 crores have been seized. In a statement issued today, the department said that this action was taken on February 25 last. This raid was done on 35 premises.
Several documents, digital evidence and loose papers have been seized during the raids. This evidence clearly shows a nexus between these contractors and a prominent person. During this, three dozen such immovable properties have been unearthed, whose value is more than Rs 130 crore. These properties are in the name of these contractors or their associates or are Benami.
Contractors hid an income of more than Rs 200 crore.
The investigation also found that international hawala transactions took place in this, and illegal money from foreign territory has also been used. Preliminary research has revealed that these contractors have concealed income of more than Rs 200 crore.
NCP leader Nawab Malik did not get relief
The special PMLA court has extended the Enforcement Directorate’s custody of Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Nawab Malik till March 7. Nawab Malik’s custody in the Dawood Ibrahim money laundering case ended today. The special court sent him to ED custody for eight days. At the same time, Nawab Malik termed his arrest as illegal. Petition filed in Mumbai High Court. Which will be heard in the High Court on March 7.
The matter was heard in the Bombay High Court on Wednesday. During this hearing, the ED sought time from the court to respond to the plea of Nawab Malik. The court has given the ED time till March 7. Now the hearing will be held in the High Court on March 7.
On Monday, Malik had filed a petition in the Bombay High Court, claiming that the ED’s action against him was political. Nawab Malik is alleged to have bought 300 crores of Munira Plumber located in Kurla, Mumbai, for Rs 30 lakh, and payment of Rs 20 lakh was made in that.
