Indian Railways: During Travel, Take Travel Insurance Of 49 Paise

If you travel long distances on a train, never make a small mistake while booking a reservation ticket. Railways are giving you and your family great convenience. Railways are giving travel insurance of Rs 10 lakhs to its passengers for 49 paise. In case of any untoward incident with any passenger, the passenger and his family get the benefit. This can be availed by booking tickets through the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). This facility is not for children under 5 years of age.

How Can I Get Insurance?

Whenever you book a train ticket from the IRCTC website, you will have an option of travel insurance. For this, you only have to pay 49 paise. After booking the ticket from IRCTC, a link will be given to fill the details of the nominee through SMS and e-mail on your mobile, by clicking on which you can fill the nominee’s information directly by visiting the insurance company website.

By opening the link provided on email or SMS, information on your ticket details such as PNR, name, birth number can be seen on the insurance company page. In the page, boxes are made to fill the information of the nominee’s name, relationship with him, age, address, etc., details have to be filled in and updated.

Who Can Take Insurance?

According to the information provided on the website of IRCTC, only 10% of confirmed and (awaited) RAC tickets will get the benefit of travel insurance of Rs 10 lakh. Those with waiting list e-tickets will not get the benefit because the ticket is automatically canceled if the ticket is not confirmed. Apart from this, this facility is also not meant for children below 5 years of age. Your insurance will start as soon as you start your journey. If any incident-accident happens to you during the journey then you will get the benefit.

How Much Will Be Claimed?

The amount of the claim depends on the loss in the accident. It is divided into 5 categories. In case of permanent disability and death due to accident, a claim of Rs 10 lakh and in case of total disability is also claimed. Partial disability in case of an accident during a rail journey, 7.5 lakh rupees and if injured are admitted to hospital, then a claim of Rs 2 lakh is received. In case of death, the help of Rs 10 thousand will also be taken to carry the dead body.
