The Governor of Uttar Pradesh constituted a commission to investigate the Lakhimpur incident. Retired Allahabad High Court judge Pradeep Kumar Srivastava will head the inquiry commission.
Hearing in the Supreme Court today, on the other hand, the Supreme Court has taken suo moto cognizance in this matter. A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana will hear the issue today. The title of this case has been kept as ‘Violence in Lakhimpur Kheri Leading to Loss of Life’. Justices Suryakant and Hima Kohli are also members of the bench. No arrest has been made in this case so far.
Significantly, eight people, including four farmers, were killed in the violence in the Tikonia area of Lakhimpur Kheri district on Sunday. A case has been registered against many people, including Ashish, son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra. However, no one has been arrested. A riot was organized in the native village of Ajay Mishra. UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya was to attend this program.
