Narayan Prasad Sah is a BJP MLA and Tourism Minister in Nitish Kumar’s government. In Hardiya village of West Champaran district of Bihar, his son allegedly assaulted villagers and fired in the air to intimidate them. After this, the angry villagers threw stones at the minister’s son and his associates and drove them away.
What is the whole matter?
According to the report of India Today’s Rohit Kumar Singh, this incident happened on Sunday. In Hardiya village, some boys town were playing cricket in the garden of Minister Narayan Prasad Sah. Sah’s son Bablu and his companions reached the garden and forbade them from playing cricket.
It is being told that Bablu beat up some boys playing cricket. When some women tried to intervene, they were also beaten up. On getting information about the incident, some other people of the village also reached the garden and surrounded the car of the minister’s son.
It is alleged that after this, Bablu and his accomplices came out of the car with weapons and started running while firing in the air. In the video of this incident that has surfaced, some people are running the minister’s son and his associates and pelting stones at them.
What do the police have to say?
According to Rohit Kumar Singh of India Today, the police reached the spot and controlled the situation by intervening. Some villagers, including the minister’s son, have also suffered injuries admitted to the hospital.
West Champaran district SP Upendra Verma told India Today,
“We have deployed police in the area to maintain law and order, and further investigation is on. The minister’s son and his uncle Harendra Prasad, manager Vijay and other associates were injured in the clash with the villagers, who are undergoing treatment.”
What do both sides have to say?
According to the news of The Quint, Sarika Kumari, a victim, in this case, told,
“20-25 children were playing in the garden of Narayan Prasad Sah. Suddenly, his son came in the car with ten people, started hitting the children, and firing his rifle. When my brother reached there, he was brutally beaten up; my mother and I was also beaten up. After that, they ran away.”
On the other hand, Minister Narayan Prasad Sah has accused the villagers of grabbing their land. He says that sometime before this whole incident, his younger brother had protested against the encroachment of land by the villagers. The villagers beat up his brother and some other family members. The minister further said,
“After the villagers beat up my family members, my son went to the spot with his licensed rifle and pistol but was also attacked with stones by the villagers. They also vandalized my car.”
According to India Today, Minister Narayan Prasad Sah and his son admitted to the hospital have denied the allegations of firing; according to them, no bullet was fired during the incident.
Opposition attacks the Nitish government.
In Bihar, the main opposition party Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has targeted Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over this incident of the beating of local people in West Champaran. RJD leader Shakti Singh Yadav said while questioning,
“CM Nitish Kumar tell whether the minister’s son had the right to attack children playing cricket? The law and order situation in Bihar is terrible. When the lawmakers break the law, who will enforce the law in the state.”
