The Supreme Court Has Taken Automatic Cognizance Of The Issue Of Expediting The Hearing Of Cases Of Rape and Violence Against Women.
The Supreme Court has taken suo moto cognizance of the issue. Of expediting the hearing of cases of rape and violence against women. The apex court on Wednesday issued a notice to the Central. State Governments and Union Territories seeking response by February 7. The court said that we need to review and improve the country’s criminal justice system. A bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde has asked the Home Secretary. Chief Secretaries of all states and union territories to file replies on the issue. The Supreme Court will now hear the case on February 7, 2020.
The apex court gave another tough verdict on the rape incidents. The apex court dismissed a review petition filed by one of the four convicts in the Nirbhaya gang-rape case. A reconsideration petition was filed by Akshay Kumar Singh. A convict, against the Supreme Court’s 2017 decision to uphold the death penalty. A three-judge bench headed by Justice R. Bhanumathi ruled the petition. The bench also consists of Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice AS Bopanna.
