NV Ramana New CJI: Justice Nathalapathy Venkata Ramana will be the 48th Chief Justice of India. The current Chief Justice SA Bobde has sent the recommendation of his name to the government. Justice Bobde’s term is till 23 April. After the President’s approval, Justice Ramna will take oath on 24 April.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy had sent a letter to the Chief Justice complaining of Justice Ramna’s interference in the Andhra High Court. Amravati land scam was also being alleged for the role of some of his family members. The recommendation of his name is clear that the Chief Justice has dismissed the complaint.

Ramna was also the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court.

Born on 27 August 1957 in Ponavaram, Andhra Pradesh, Justice Ramana is known for his calm and soft-spoken nature. Before his appointment to the Supreme Court in 2014, he was the Delhi High Court’s Chief Justice. His term as Chief Justice will be till 26 August 2022. In this way, he will remain in this critical post for 16 months.

In the last few years, the most popular decision of Justice Ramna has been the restoration of the internet in Jammu and Kashmir. Justice Ramna has also been a member of the bench, which has decided to bring the Chief Justice office under the purview of the Right to Information Act (RTI).

Justice NV Ramana was born on 27 August 1957 in Ponnavaram village in Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh. He first became a lawyer on 10 February 1983. Ramna was appointed as a permanent judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on 27 June 2000. He then served as Acting Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court from 10 March 2013 to 20 May 2013.
