Explain that almost all opposition parties, including Congress, BSP, SP, and TMC are opposing the citizenship law. There were strong protests in Assam, Delhi, UP, West Bengal, Bihar, Karnataka, and many other states. In Uttar Pradesh, 19 people died in these demonstrations. Violent demonstrations also took place in Delhi. Opposition parties are demanding the government to withdraw the act. However, the BJP is not ready to bow down to this law. It is being argued on behalf of the Union Ministers. That this law will not take away the citizenship of any Indian. But will give citizenship to minorities living in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.

Congress In The Box

#IndiaSupportsCAA: Congress is involved in the sit-in demonstration and agitation by linking the Citizenship Act. And National Population Register (NPR) with NRIC (National Register of Indian Citizens). Actually, she herself has been talking about NRC while in power. In the era of UPA 2, the Home Ministry had clearly stated that it intends to bring NRC. And citizenship will decide on the basis of that.

In response to a question in Parliament. The then Minister of State for Home Jitendra Singh had said that all ten fingerprints. Iris, photographs, etc. would identify in the NPR and then given cards. But that would not be proof of citizenship. The citizenship rights will give only to those whose names will be in NRC. It will come later as a subset of NPR. #IndiaSupportsCAA

The Congress had on Saturday opposed the CAA, NPR. And NRC, citing the Constitution on the occasion of its foundation day. It is being alleged by the opposition parties that the citizenship of Muslims from NRC will be in danger. Some states of the opposition parties have also refused NPR. But the Congress had a different view while in power.
