India is constantly emphasizing the defence sector.
Significantly, India is continuously increasing its defence budget. The focus of the country is to become self-reliant in the defence sector. Therefore, the central government is constantly working to reduce India’s defence import (import) and increase export (export). India’s arms exports have jumped 6-fold in the last eight years.
India has exported arms worth Rs 11607 crore in the current financial year. Minister of State for Defense Ajay Bhatt gave this information in a written reply in the Lok Sabha. He said that in the financial year 2014-15, India had exported weapons worth 1941 crores, which has now reached Rs 11,607 crores in 2021-22.
Target to increase defence exports
In the last seven years, the Modi government has taken many important decisions to promote exports in the defence sector. The government has also set a target to increase the country’s defence exports to Rs 36,500 crore by 2024-25.
According to the ‘Stockholm International Peace Research Institute’ (SIPRI), India ranks third after the US and China based on spending in the defence budget. According to SIPRI, India has increased spending on the defence budget by 76 per cent between 2011 and 2020.
