Misri has previously worked in the Prime Minister’s Office and is well-versed in the strategic situation in the Indo-Pacific region. He will report to National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. At present, there are two more deputy NSAs Rajendra Khanna and Datta Pandasalgikar.
At the end of his term as Indian ambassador to China, Misri said that both countries would solve the current problems and positively take the mutual relations forward. The Indian embassy, in a press release, said that the ambassador expressed the hope that through constant dialogue at all levels – political, diplomatic and military – both sides would be able to resolve the existing difficulties and take the relationship forward in a positive direction.
He had an online meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during his departure. He said that due to some challenges, there was a negative impact on the vast opportunities in bilateral relations last year. During the conversation with Wang, Misri, referring to the stand-off in eastern Ladakh, said, “Our relationship contained both opportunities and challenges. However, some of the challenges that continued from last year dominated the major opportunities in the relationship.”
