Cocktail Booster Dose In India: The corona vaccine’s booster dose or precaution dose is being applied in the country. In the beginning, apart from frontline workers and healthcare workers, the third dose is also being administered to those older people above 60 years of age who are suffering from some severe illness.
Cocktail Booster Dose In India
There are about 10 million health workers and 20 million frontline workers in the country; apart from this, the number of people above 60 years is about 13 crore; according to this, 160 million booster doses will be needed in the country.
According to the guideline issued by the Ministry of Health, the same vaccine will be given in the third dose, which will be shown in the first two doses. If the first two doses are from Covishield, then the third dose will also be taken from Covishield. Similarly, if the first two doses were of Covaxin, the third dose would also be given of Covaxin.
Why was the third dose of the cocktail not done?
Many experts worldwide believe that the third dose should be of a different vaccine. For example, if the first two doses are Covaccine, the third dose should be of Covishield. Similarly, if the first two doses are of Covishield, the third dose should be of Covaccine. But the government has not said about the mixed vaccine yet.
The first dose of vaccine is called primary. The first dose identifies the virus and makes antibodies against it, but the primary dose and the antibodies formed from it should be maintained even further; a second dose is given for this. Although the immunity of most of the vaccines being used in Corona has been found to decrease after 6 to 8 months, so the third dose, i.e. booster dose, is being given to boost this immunity.
Epidemiologist Dr Sanjay Rai said that booster dose boosts the same immunity. Therefore a booster dose of the same vaccine should be given. Because we also have to see the long term effect of all the vaccines. Good effects too. Bad effects too. If we keep mixing then no one will be held accountable.
Dr Rai says that those who have got the vaccine should be given the same booster dose. Because so far, there is evidence of the safety and efficacy of the vaccine, but in the long term, we do not know about it. That’s why they should be given the same—no need to cross.
Why is a booster dose needed?
The immunity made from the vaccine against Corona starts decreasing after a few months. In such a situation, a booster dose of the vaccine is necessary. Apart from this, the new Omicron variant of Corona has increased its need. Because the new variant is also preying on people who have taken the vaccine and the elderly and healthcare and frontline workers are most at risk. That’s why the third dose is being applied.
