Going viral on the Internet, this picture is being called the most dangerous picture of space ever. Everyone is shocked to see this. This picture is almost four decades old. NASA took this picture in February 1984. In this, an astronaut wearing a white space suit can be seen floating in space away from the spacecraft. The blue earth is visible under the feet of the Astronaut.
The Astronaut seen in the picture is Bruce McCandless II. This picture of him was taken when he rehearsed for a satellite repair mission and exited the Challenger space shuttle. He was the first Astronaut who went into space without any wires, separated from the spacecraft.
It is challenging for any astronaut to do this. NASA has given the title of this picture ‘Free Floating’. NASA says all this was possible because of the jet pack carried on his back, the Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU).
McCandless tested a 136-pound MMU near the spacecraft. After this, he was floating freely 320 feet away from the Space Shuttle.
Bruce McCandless can be seen floating in space without any strings attached in this video.
MMU is a nitrogen-powered jetpack that helps astronauts turn and move around in space.
Bruce McCandless died on 21 December 2017 at the age of 80.
