The world’s oldest tree is in southern Chile’s Alerce Costero National Park. This is a Cypress Tree. Which is called Sanovar in Hindi. To say the oldest means that the age of this tree is more than all the trees present on the earth. That’s why scientists also call it ‘Great Grandfather’.
Ecologist Jonathan Barichevich of the Climate and Environmental Sciences Laboratory in Paris said that the age of this cypress tree is 5484 years. We have found out its age, size, spread etc., by checking it with a computer model. It is an extinct species of tree.

Jonathan said that through the computer model, we have found out the story of 80 per cent of its growth. There is only a 20 per cent chance that this tree will be less than the stated age. Because the trunk of this tree is 4 meters in diameter, its rings could not be counted. This tree has broken the record of the last oldest tree.
Earlier, the Bristlecone Pine, located in the White Mountains of California, was said to be the oldest tree. Its name is Methuselah. Its age is 4853 years. But the age of the Great Grandfather is 5,484 years. Jonathan says that some scientists do not agree with this revelation, but there cannot be a more accurate way of finding out its exact age without making holes or cutting in the tree.

Ed Cook, director of Columbia University’s Tree Ring Laboratory, says that if we cannot calculate the inner rings of the tree, then it is difficult to determine its exact age. But the technique by which Jonathan has estimated the period of this tree can be almost accurate. It is confirmed that this tree is more than 5000 years old.
