Top-ranked Nadal defeated Pablo Cuevas 6–2, 6–1 in Perth on Monday, with Spain winning against Uruguay. Former number one Nadal took full advantage of his experience to register a one-sided victory in the match. Nadal defeated Cuevas 6–2 in the first set. Then narrowed the gap in the second set to an easy 6–1 victory.
Spain’s other player Roberto Batista Agut gave a good start to Spain by defeating 19-year-old Franco Roncadelli 6–1, 6–2. Batista also recorded an easy win for Spain. In the first set, he led Franco to an easy 6–1 victory. In the next set, Batista won 6–2. Spain has won both matches in Group B so far and will next face invincible Japan.
At ATP Cup Novak Djokovic won their singles and doubles matches, helping Serbia beat France 2–1 to enter the quarter-finals of the tournament. Benoit Pierre defeated Dusan Lajovic 6–2, 5–7, 6–4 in the first match to give France the lead. But Djokovic defeated Gael Monfils 6-3, 6–2 to level Serbia.
Djokovic then teamed up with Viktor Troicki to give his team victory by defeating Nicholas Mahroot. And Edward Roger Veselin 6-3, 5-7, 10-3. Earlier, South Africa won over Chile, putting Serbia on top in Group A.
