India tour of West Indies 2022: The Indian cricket team is now gearing up for the challenge against the West Indies. In the first match of the ODI series starting on Friday, Team India will challenge the hosts in Trinidad. The Indian ODI team led by Shikhar Dhawan has reached the West Indies. Meanwhile, a report claimed that BCCI spent crores on Team India’s flight to West Indies.
Team India has reached the West Indies tour to play a series of three ODIs and five T20 Internationals. Rohit Sharma has been rested from the ODI series, and Shikhar Dhawan has been given command of the team. Rohit Sharma can return to the team with the T20 series. According to the news, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) spent Rs 3.5 crore on the flight to the West Indies.
According to a report in ‘The Times of India’, the BCCI had arranged for a chartered flight to send Team India from England to the West Indies, for which around Rs 3.5 crore was spent. The Indian team reached Port of Spain, the capital of Trinidad and Tobago, at 11.30 pm Indian time, taking a flight from Manchester on Tuesday.
According to this report, the reason for booking a chartered flight for Team India is not Kovid-19. It became difficult to book so many tickets on a regular flight at once, and the support staff was also present, along with 16 players in the Indian contingent. At the same time, it is also being told that the players’ wives have also gone to West Indies with them.
According to a source, “Normally, the cost of booking so many tickets on a flight would have been around Rs 2 crore. A ticket in business class for a flight from Manchester to Port of Spain would have cost Rs 2 lakh. A chartered flight would have been costlier than that. But it was the right decision. Most of the top football teams have charters.”
