Top doubles badminton player Chirag Shetty believes the Indian men’s team can win a medal in the Thomas Cup final. Chirag missed the Sudirman Cup due to injury and is eyeing a stellar performance in the prestigious Thomas Cup tournament.
This will be his first tournament since the Tokyo Olympics, and he is looking forward to getting on the court. He could not play in the Sudirman Cup due to a strain in his abdominal muscles. The Thomas and Uber Cup finals will now be played in Aarhus, Denmark, from October 9 to 17.
Chirag told PTI, “Two weeks before the Sudirman Cup, I had a strain in my abdominal muscles, due to which I decided to withdraw from the Sudirman Cup. But now I am fit and ready to play in the Thomas Cup final.
India faces defending champions China, Netherlands and Tahiti in Group C and Chirag says they have a chance to return with a medal.
“We have not only a strong singles player this time but also a strong doubles pair. So we can win a medal. We can win medals. We won a bronze medal last time in the Asian Team Championship, so our team can win a medal.
