Dingko Singh was battling liver cancer and was undergoing treatment since 2017. Dingko Singh won the gold medal in the Asian Games in 1998. Dingko Singh was awarded the Arjuna Award in 1998 and Padma Shri in 2013.

Vijender Singh, who won India’s flag in the Olympics, is also saddened by the death of Dinko Singh. Vijender Singh wrote, “Saddened by the demise of Dinko Singh. We all are with Dinko Singh’s family in this challenging situation. Dinko Singh will work to inspire the generations to come.
