IPL 2022 Retention Rules: Old Team Can Retain Maximum Four Players

IPL 2022 Retention Rules: The most prominent league in the world. And now this league is ready for its 15th season. The preparations for IPL 2022 have started. This time the league will be played in 10 teams. Two new teams have become part of this league in the form of Lucknow and Ahmedabad. And now, one more thing has been known in these preparations.

According to Cricinfo, before the mega auction is to be held this time, the current eight teams of IPL will retain a maximum of four players. Whereas before the auction, two new franchises will add three players from the remaining player’s pool. However, the date of the auction has not been confirmed yet. There are speculations that this time the purse of the teams will be 90 crores. This amount is five crores more than the 2021 auction.

Talking about retained players, teams can have three Indian and one foreign, two Indian and two foreign players. Retained Indians can be capped or uncapped or a mix of both. Also, this time there will be no right to match option in the auction. And the final decision in retention will remain with the player whether he wants to be retained or goes to the auction pool.

IPL 2022 Retention Rules

Talking about the first three players going to the new teams, two Indians and one foreigner can be there. It is not clear whether these players will be from the players released by the current teams or from the larger pool to be prepared later. It is worth noting that some new names can also appear in the big pool. If the new franchise had to choose only from the players left by the remaining eight teams, then it is expected that the players draft will also be seen this time.

We saw this system in the auction held before IPL 2016 when two new teams were added to the IPL in Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions. At that time, the Supergiants got the right to choose the first player. And he decided on Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The Supergiants got this right because they had made giant bids in the bidding for two new franchises.

Although IPL has not yet announced the details and rules, it is believed that the deadline to retain players can go until the end of November. IPL has not decided on more information like the maximum amount to be spent on players to be included. Only after these decisions, more things will be clear on this issue.
