IPL 2022: Did Delhi Capitals Lose Because Of Rishabh Pant?

Delhi Capitals is not looking in the form it showed in the last few seasons in IPL- 2022. In the current season, Delhi has played seven matches so far and in which it has won three and lost four. He is in the sixth position in the points table. Delhi faced Rajasthan Royals on Friday.

This match was fascinating. Batting first, Rajasthan scored 222 runs for the loss of two wickets with the help of 116 runs from opener Jos Buttler. Delhi could score only 207 runs for the loss of eight wickets, but it was time for Delhi to create history and beat Rajasthan in the last over of this match. Then Delhi captain Rishabh Pant did something that sparked controversy.

In the last over, Delhi needed 36 runs to win. Rajasthan captain Sanju Samson handed the ball to West Indies’ Obed McCoy. Rovman Powell of Delhi Capitals was in front of him. Powell hit a six off the first ball. A six came off his bat on the second ball as well. After this, he also hit a six on the third ball. It just happened here that Delhi could not win.

Rishabh Pant did drama.

The third ball on which Powell hit a six. It was a full toss till waist height. According to the Delhi team, Powell hit a six on this, but it should be given a no-ball. Here Delhi captain Rishabh Pant became aggressive, and he started expressing displeasure from the boundary line itself. The team’s assistant coach Praveen Amre also came on the field and started arguing with the umpires.

Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant signalled to Powell and Kuldeep Yadav to return, but they did not do so again at the behest of assistant coach Shane Watson. The Delhi team said that the help of the third umpire should be taken in this. The on-field umpires did not listen to the Delhiites and started the match, ignoring their demands.

Powell’s broken rhythm?

All this controversy that happened somewhere broke the rhythm of Powell hitting sixes continuously, and after that, Powell could not bat the way he was doing. Had Rishabh Pant and the Delhi team respected the umpire’s decision not to stop the game and allowed Powell to bat in his rhythm, he might have created history by hitting sixes in the successive three balls and giving Delhi victory. Maybe.
