Meanwhile, former captain Rameez Raja was unanimously elected as the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, who will replace Ehsan Mani for the next three years. This will be Rameez’s second stint with the PCB. He was the chief executive of the board from 2003 to 2004. The board’s special meeting was chaired by the Election Commissioner of PCB, Justice (Retd) Sheikh Azmat Saeed.
Rameez was nominated by the Prime Minister and Chief Patron of the Board, Imran Khan. Abdul Hafeez Kardar (1972 to 1977), Javed Burki (1994 to 1995) and Ejaz Butt (2008-2011) have been former cricketers who held the post of PCB chairman before Rameez, who was a member of the 1992 World Cup-winning team.
Rameez, who scored 8,674 runs in over 205 matches for Pakistan between 1984 and 1997, will replace senior sports administrator Mani, whose term ended last month. Raja told the board of governors, ‘I am thankful to all of you for electing me for the post of PCB chairman. I will work closely with you in the coming times for strong development both inside and outside the field. I aim to give the same mentality, passion and culture to the Pakistani men’s cricket team, based on which the Pakistani squad used to be one of the most dangerous teams in the world.
