Indian spin star Ravichandran Ashwin has achieved a new position in his cricket career. He has become the second Indian to take the highest 435 wickets in Tests. Ashwin has broken the record of 1983 World Cup-winning legend Kapil Dev. Fast bowling all-rounder Kapil Dev took 434 wickets.

However, Ashwin is still behind former leg-spinner Anil Kumble. Kumble took 619 wickets in his career. He is also the fourth-highest wicket-taker in the world. Former Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan is at the top with the most 800 wickets globally.
Headley and Herath were also defeated.
Ashwin has achieved this historic feat in the Mohali Test against Sri Lanka. The Indian team is playing the first match of the two-Test series against Sri Lanka. In its first innings, Ashwin took two wickets for 49 runs. After taking the third wicket in the second innings, Kapil Dev has been left behind. Ashwin has also beaten New Zealand’s Richard Hadlee and Sri Lanka’s Rangana Herath in the exact match.
Ashwin now has a target to overtake former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn. Steyn has taken 439 wickets so far. If Ashwin surpasses Steyn, he will be the highest wicket-taker in the 400-wicket haul. He will be named after West Indies’ Courtney Walsh, who took 519 wickets.
