Indian women wrestlers missed winning a gold medal in the Junior Wrestling World Championship in Ufa, Russia. Indian women’s wrestlers Sanju Devi (62kg) and Bhateri (65kg) reached the finals. However, neither of them could win their match, and India missed winning the gold. At the same time, during the bronze medal match in the 72 kg category, Saneh suffered a knee injury in the playoffs.
Sanju Devi and Bhateri Lost The Final Match
Sanju Devi had managed to register a comeback in the previous encounters. Still, on Friday, she could not do so against Russia’s Alina Kasabieva, who won the gold medal with technical excellence in the first period. Bhateri could not challenge the 65kg final and lost by technological superiority to Etina Ringacchi of Moldova. Bipasha (76kg) won silver, while Simran (50kg) and Sito (55kg) won bronze on Thursday.

Indian women won a total of five medals in the tournament with three silver and two bronze. The Indian women’s team secured the third position in the table with 134 points. However, it had equal points with Russia, who finished second due to two gold medals. America took first place with 143 points. In men’s freestyle, Indian wrestlers won six medals, one silver and five bronze. India’s Greco-Roman wrestlers again struggled, and none of the five wrestlers who landed on Friday could reach the semi-finals.

India ended its campaign in the men’s freestyle event with six medals, including a silver. Ravinder missed out on the gold medal in the 61 kg weight category. He had to be content with the silver medal. Ravinder had to face defeat against the Iranian wrestler in the final. On the other hand, Yash (74 kg), Prithvi Patil (92 kg), and Anirudh (125 kilograms) took bronze medals taking full advantage of repesh.
