The journey of the Indian team in the T20 World Cup is over. The team defeated Namibia by nine wickets in their last match of the World Cup. And with this, Virat Kohli has also played his final match as the captain of the T20 team. And along with this, coach Ravi Shastri, who separated from Team India, has also hinted at the new captain of Team India.
Apart from his journey with Team India, Ravi Shastri talked about the next captain to handle the Indian team in the T20 format. He believes that Rohit Sharma can take Indian cricket to new heights. They said,
Virat Kohli, Ravi Shastri hints as Team Captain.
We have a capable man in Rohit. He has won so many IPL titles. He has been the vice-captain of this team for a long time.
Along with this, Ravi Shastri also talked about two teams, two captains. He believes that given the fatigue of the bio bubble and a lot of series, this concept is needed at this time. Keeping his point, Shastri said,
“Given the fatigue of the bio bubble, two teams, two captains are the need of the hour, knowing how much cricket is being played. Players need to change. You haven’t been able to meet your parents for six months.
I am mentally exhausted; it is possible at my age. But these players are tired both mentally and physically—six months into the bio bubble. We would have liked to have a break between the IPL and the T20 World Cup because when there are big games when there is pressure, you don’t play the way you should”.
While talking about the team’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup, Ravi Shastri said that he did not want to make excuses, but the team was not in a good position to try and win.
‘This is not an excuse. We accept defeat. And we are not afraid to lose. In trying to win, you lose some matches. But here we did not try to win because our X-factor was missing”.
In the end, Ravi Shastri also talked about the sixth bowler. Referring to the areas on which Team India needs to work, Shastri said,
“Earlier, we used to have players in the top six who were capable of playing big shots in the middle order. This is the area on which we need to work”.
Let us tell you that Virat Kohli had also indicated that Rohit Sharma would be the next captain of the Indian team in the T20 format. Before the match against Namibia, he talked about Rohit.
