Zimbabwe all-rounder Roy Kaia has been banned from bowling in international cricket. His bowling action has been found illegal. After this, the ICC has taken this action. However, Roy Kaya can bowl in domestic cricket with the permission of Zimbabwe Cricket. Also, he can apply to the bowl after improving the bowling action.
The ICC has stopped Roy Kaya from bowling after an independent investigation. In a statement issued by the ICC, it has been said that the ban on Kaya’s bowling will continue in all National Cricket Federation’s domestic cricket. However, as per Article 11.5, he can bowl in his domestic cricket with the permission of the Zimbabwe Cricket.
Zimbabwe Cricketer Roy Kaia Suspended
Roy Kaya bowls off-spin. His bowling action complained during the Harare Test against Bangladesh in July. He bowled 23 overs in that match, but no wicket was found. At the same time, he also failed in batting and was dismissed without opening an account in both innings. Zimbabwe had to face defeat by 220 runs in this test.
The ICC said that the expert panel reviewed Kaya’s bowling action. Due to the restrictions related to Corona in the centres recognised by the ICC, an investigation is not being done yet. The ICC said the panel agreed that Kaya was bending the elbow more than 15 degrees while throwing the ball. In such a situation, his bowling action is illegal.
International debut in 2015
29-year-old Roy Kaya made his ODI debut for Zimbabwe in 2015 against Pakistan. Then he was selected for the team due to his batting ability. But after this match, he has not been able to play for Zimbabwe again in white-ball cricket.
He made his Test debut against Pakistan in early 2021. Since then, he has played two more Tests. So far, he has 59 runs in three Tests. Forty-eight runs are his highest score. He has not got any wicket in this format. As far as his ODI career is concerned, he has neither run nor wickets in his name.
