PhoneSpy: Android phone users need to be careful again. New spyware has been detected. It steals the personal data of the users. It is present inside the apps. South Korean Android users are currently the most affected by this.
Where this spyware has spread, it will be known only in the coming time. It has been named PhoneSpy. According to the researcher, this spyware is first present in an app without taking advantage of the vulnerability of the phone.
PhoneSpy in 23 Apps
Mobile security firm Zimperium has reported about this. PhoneSpy has been seen in 23 apps. These apps didn’t look fake. Apart from stealing identity, they can also do more harm. According to the researcher, PhoneSpy can take real-time photos and videos without the users’ knowledge by bringing access to the phone’s camera.
These photos or videos can be used to blackmail personal or corporate users. Apart from this, it can also be used for cyber spying. This is quite scary, but if users have downloaded the PhoneSpy affected app by mistake, they need to be careful.
These apps ask for various types of permissions. After giving consent, PhoneSpy hides from the phone’s app menu and tracks the user in the background. According to the researcher, this app is not currently on the Play Store.
PhoneSpy spreads itself through web-traffic redirection or social engineering. Tracking this spyware is very difficult. Because of this, users should avoid downloading the app from any third party.
