Airtel Gave A Shock; Prepaid Plans Will Be Expensive, CEO Confirms

Airtel customers are going to get another setback amid rising inflation. Airtel is going to increase the prices of its prepaid plans once again. The company has argued for setting the average revenue per user ( ARPU ) to Rs 200 behind increasing the cost. Airtel CEO Gopal Vittal has also confirmed this. Airtel is all set to increase the prepaid rate. Last year also, the country’s three leading telecom companies, Airtel, Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio, had increased the prices of their prepaid recharge plans by 18 to 25 per cent.

Dissatisfied with TRAI

According to Airtel, it is not satisfied with the base price of 5G of the country’s telecom regulator TRAI. According to the Economic Times report, CEO Gopal Vittal says that the telecom industry had expected a massive reduction in prices, but the price did come down. Still, this reduction is insufficient in this regard. He told all this during the earnings call on Wednesday.

5G reverse price issue

Telecom operators in the country are not happy with TRAI’s 5G reverse price recommendation. Companies insisted on reducing the 5G reverse price by 90 per cent. That’s why Airtel has decided to increase the costs of prepaid plans. The company says that at present, the rate of tariff is low.

ARPU is Rs 200

Airtel CEO Gopal Vittal says that he feels that the tariff rate should be increased this year and last year. Its current rate is still low. First, they have to take the Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) up to Rs 200. The tariff rates will have to be increased at least once.

CEO said – customers can bear the increased prices!

Amidst the announcement of increasing tariff rates, Airtel CEO Gopal Vittal also said that Airtel customers would be able to bear the increase in prepaid plans. The increased prices will be a one-time temporary setback. Let us tell you that despite the expensive prepaid plan, Airtel added 52.4 lakh new 4G users in March.

Prices increased last year also.

Airtel was the first company to increase the rates of prepaid plans last year. In November 2021, Airtel had increased its prepaid plans by 18 to 25 per cent. After this, Vodafone Idea also increased the rates of its prepaid plans. After seeing them, Reliance Jio had also increased its prepaid plan by up to 20 per cent.
