Bharti Airtel has announced changes in the rates of its prepaid plans. The company has increased the tariff rates on prepaid plans by 20 to 25 per cent. The new tariff rates announced by Airtel will be applicable from November 26.
Why did Airtel hike rates?
Bharti Airtel has also given the reason behind increasing the rates of prepaid plans. According to a report in Business Standard, the company says that raising rates was necessary for a good and healthy business model. A statement issued by Airtel said,
“Bharti Airtel has always ensured that the Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) should be Rs 200 and eventually Rs 300, so that the company can get reasonable returns, financially it needs a healthy business model.”
The company has further said that this decision will enable substantial investment in the infrastructure of Airtel Telecom and help the company roll out the 5G spectrum.
New rates of prepaid plans
Now the price of 28 days prepaid plan of Airtel will start from Rs 99. That is, the price of this plan has increased by 25%. Now customers will pay Rs 179 for a prepaid Rs 149 with 2GB of data and unlimited calling for 28 days. There has been a hike of 20% in this plan. The Rs 219 plan with 1GB of data per day and unlimited calling for 28 days will cost Rs 265.
The price of Airtel’s popular Rs 598 plan has also been increased. This plan comes with a validity of 84 days. In this, 1.5GB of data is given to daily users. Now the user will have to spend Rs 719 for this plan. There has been a hike of 20% in the tariff of data top-up and other plans.
Airtel chairman had indicated to increase the rate
Bharti Airtel chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal had shown to increase the rates of its tariff plans in August itself. Then he had said, “The only way out is the tariff hike for the telecom industry…we have done our work in a limited way, now the patience has run out. We cannot be separated (from others) all the time.”
After the announcement of Airtel, other telecom companies Reliance Jio and Vodafone, have not yet announced the price hike. But, it is believed that these companies can also increase the prices of their prepaid plans soon.
