The company has told that these are active and inactive users of WordPress. According to the company, a type of phishing attack has taken place in which this data was accessed by third parties unauthorizedly.
GoDaddy Hacked – Users Data Exposed
The company learned about this on 17 November 2021, while the phishing attack happened only on 6 September 2021. Know that WordPress is a tool for creating websites and blogs and is generally used to create websites like e-commerce stores, business websites, social networks, forums. Many reports claim that WordPress accounts for 40 per cent of the websites available on the Internet.
On GoDaddy, you can manage your website or domain yourself, and this time hackers have attacked it. After a preliminary investigation, the company says that the reason for the data leak is a compromised password of an unauthorized user’s system, with the help of which a third party got access to sensitive information.
The company says that the original WordPress admin passwords given to the customers while creating the WordPress account have also been exposed. The sFTP credentials that customers use for file transfer, along with the WordPress username and password, have also been leaked.
GoDaddy reported that WordPress passwords had been reset, and new SSL certificates were also being issued. The company has also confirmed that all affected customers are being contacted directly, and investigation is on.
