Tech giant Google is going to shut down one of its services. Google will shut down Hangouts this year. Earlier it was closed in February for workspace users. Now Google is moving free, personal Hangouts users to Chat.
Google said in its blog that users currently using the Hangouts mobile app will get a prompt to move to Chat. Users who use Hangouts on the web Gmail won’t be asked to switch to chat until July.
However, Hangouts can be used on the desktop until November. Google has said it will warn users about the transfer of Chat from the Hangouts site at least a month in advance. Let us tell you that Google Chat is not GChat (or Google Talk).
It was banned earlier this month itself. The company had told the most in 2018 about moving users from Hangouts to chat. After this, this feature was made free for all users in 2020.
If you still use Hangouts, then Google will automatically transfer your old conversations to Chat. Apart from this, the company has also given users the option of takeout service. With this, users can download Hangouts data before it is shut down in November.
For users switching to Chat, Google has said that it is releasing many features. In addition to making direct calls, in-line thread space can be created. Apart from this, multiple images can be shared or viewed.
