Reliance Jio has given a big shock to its 35 crore customers before Diwali, announcing that Jio users will now have to pay for calling on other networks. After this announcement, Jio users may face trouble. Jio, which became the first choice of customers for its free services, will now charge 6 paise per minute for customers to call another company’s network.
Calling on Jio network will be free
This new announcement means that Jio customers will now have to pay to talk on the phone. However, according to a statement by Jio, calling from Jio to Jio’s network will remain free as before.
Live users will have to pay 6 paise per minute
From today all recharges made by Jio customers will be charged through the IUC top-up voucher at the current IUC rate of 6 paise per minute. This charge will be taken until TRAI implements a zero termination charge arrangement. This means that now Jio users will have to pay 6 paise per minute for making calls on Airtel, Vodafone or other networks.
Know what is interconnect usage charge
Interconnect usage charge (IUC) is the price paid by one mobile telecom operator to another. When customers of one telecom operator make outgoing mobile calls to customers of another operator, IUC is paid to the calling operator. These calls between two different networks are known as mobile off-net calls. The IUC charges are set by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and currently, it is 6 paise per minute.
The charge of 6 paise per minute on mobile calls will continue only till TRAI changes its current regulation. At the same time, the company has offered plans ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 100.
Jio has also issued top-up vouchers ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 100 for calling on the networks of other companies. 124 minutes calls can be done on the second number in the plan of 10 rupees. At the same time, 249 minutes will be available in 20 rupees plan. 656 minutes in 50 rupees plan and 1,362 minutes in 100 rupees plan.
Free data in lieu of top voucher
Jio will give its customers free data in exchange for top vouchers. 1 GB data with 10 rupees plan, 2 GB data with 20 rupees. 5 GB data with 50 rupees and 10 GB data with 100 rupees plan will be given.
There will be no change in tariff
The company has made it clear that it will not increase the price of its plan by any kind. At the same time, if you have a postpaid number of Jio. Then the IUC charge will be billed to you. At the same time, prepaid customers will have the option of top-up vouchers.
