Mobile Numbers of 7 Crore Users May be Closed, TRAI Deadline

The number of 70 million mobile users in the country is in danger of being shut down. TRAI i.e. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) TRAI Deadline to port their numbers to these mobile users. These 7 crore users will have to get their number port to another operator by 31 October. If these users do not get their mobile number ported to another operator, then their number will disable forever, meaning that these numbers will not be activated again. This entire case is related to the telecom company Aircel which closed in 2018. Aircel had to shut down its wireless service in 2018 after a tough challenge from Reliance Jio and other telecom companies.

TRAI Deadline

Aircel stopped its service completely in February 2018. At that time the company had 90 million users. Aircel had asked TRAI to give UPC (Unique Porting Code) for these users so that these users can port their mobile number to another network. According to the TRAI report, out of these 9 crore users, about 2 crore users had their numbers ported, but there are still 70 million i.e. 70 million users who have not got their numbers ported. TRAI Deadline has now laid for porting mobile numbers for these 7 crore users on 31 October 2019.

Aircel and Dishnet customers will be affected

Aircel, after discontinuing its service in February 2018, had requested TRAI to provide additional UPC for its users. After this, the telecom authority had issued an additional code for these users on February 28 on this request from Aircel. Between 28 February 2018 to 31 August 2019, around 19 million i.e. 2 crore users had got their numbers port to another operator. The remaining 7 crore users have not yet ported their numbers. This includes Aircel and Dishnet customers.

Generate UPC like this

In February 2018, when Aircel announced to discontinue its service, it asked its users to port the number through the website. However, Aircel’s website is no longer working. In such a situation, users will have to manually port their number. To get the number port manually, users first have to generate the UPC port. To generate this, users have to go to the message box and type PORT and their mobile number. After that, it has to send to 1900. After sending the message in 1900, users will receive UPC through SMS. With the help of this code, users will get their number port to another operator’s network. Keep in mind that its deadline has kept on 31 October.
